The Parque de la Paloma is located just back from the seafront in Benalmadena you turn up at the windmill roundabout on to the avenue Federico Garcia Lorca and the park is just in front of you. It is also one of the stops on the city sightseeing tour.
The park is over 200,000 square meters in size and was opened in the mid 1980’s. The land is laid out round a manmade lake and can be quite hilly in places but there are plenty seats for resting and taking in the view. The paths are monoblock which makes them easy to walk without fear of tripping on uneven slabs.
The main attraction of the park is the wildlife which roam freely as this was our second visit we stopped at the shop on the way in and bought a loaf to feed the animals which really made our visit more enjoyable.
We started at the lake which has a big water spout and fed the ducks ,the turtles and the large fish which looked like carp but I am not sure. Then is was the turn of the hens which arrived with its large brood of chicks looking for some scraps. Soon we were surrounded as birds joined the ducks looking for a titbit. As we moved a way from the lake we were surprised that even the rabbits took food from our hand and lay down to be stroked. Every rustle of a bush brought another animal into view as the peacocks strutted by giving a display from its tail feathers before jumping onto a bench for a better look.
Further into the park there are cages with Barbary sheep and another with emus which you are not allowed to feed. There is also a garden of cactus and succulents which had some interesting shapes.
There was another small pond which had swans , turtles and fish who all loved the bread.
The park had children’s play areas with large adventure like equipment and nets to save the more adventurous. The adults are not forgotten either with exercise equipment dotted around the park.
There are several entrances to the parks and at at least two of those is a café. The park throughout is beautifully maintained both children and adults love it and it is popular with locals at the weekends.
I highly recommend a visit to the park
