In raising of Balkan Mountains were generated many of the folding processes of the neighboring layers. North Balkan Mountains formed several series of folds. In the western part are Belogradchik rocks.
Thanks to its weathering caused by temperature fluctuations, the effects of wind and rain Belogradchik rocks acquired its present form. The process continue about 120 million years.
Belogradchik rocks are close to the beautiful Balkan Mountains, in North is Danube plain and one of the few tectonic lakes within the peninsula. So Belogradchik rock's area is extremely diverse and they fit perfectly in it.
Here every stone has a history and legend, full of suffering and heroism.
Centuries ago between the rocks there was a monastery. Early each morning monastery's bells were inviting for prayer God doomed nuns. The youngest among them, novice Vita, could not hide her beauty under the gown. The speech about pretty sister Vita was spreaded across Roman empire. On St. Peter's day, when people were allowed to visit the monasteries, the fate met Vita and the roman Antonio. Long they hid their love of nuns. But after a year the fruit of their love was revealed on light. Kid's crying resounded the monastery. Vita was faced with strick court of the monks. They decided to curse and to expel her and the child from the monastery. Then from the hill assigned Antonio on his white horse. He beseeched the nuns to leave Vita.
And the miracle happened. Suddenly the rocks were bent over the storm, a bolt fell, the earth shook. The monastery threw down and all around became like a rock - The Rider, Monks and Vita, which turn into "Madonna with Child in her arms".
Now Belogradchik rocks are nominate for one of The seven natural wonders on the world.
