Beijing International Airport figures in good place in this article about... the worst airports in the world. It is on the whole "efficient", but its "nervous ticks and quirks" can drive the traveler to distraction. Although it is likely to change with the Olympic Games, for the time being it is still a "throwback" to the bad old days of "central planning".
As you might expect in an environment of "socialist realism", there is no "consumer paradise" on offer here, without even "foreign papers" to pass the time.
There are however trollies, but they have to be relinquished "30 metres later" to go through customs, "the first of many [...] checks". And more often than not, due to "a lack of slots", passengers have to travel "for half an hour" from their plane, which may as well have landed in "the city of Tianjin" to the terminal.
