No.1 Royal Crescent

Article
[squidge, 14.02.2008] Designed by John Wood the Younger, the "grand Palladian town house" at this address is "well worth visiting", according to the Lonely Planet Guide, to experience what it would have been like living in Bath in the 18th century, with staff here "dressed in period costume" to add authenticity.

Built between 1767 and 1775, and "superbly restored", right down to the "minutest detail of its 1770 magnificence", No.1 Royal Crescent was Baths "most prestigious" address during the "crowning glory of Georgian Bath", amidst its "semicircular terrace of magnificent" houses. The Guide explains how the façades are "decorated" with "Ionic columns", and that they would have, at that time, been "rented by the season".

Not far away, the Circus, a "magnificent circle" of 30 houses, some of which were formerly owned by "famous residents", and further south, a "restored" Georgian Garden.
