I used to stay several times a year at the hotel Victoria in Basel although I can't say that I actually liked the place. It was usually booked for me by the company I visited there and I think they had a special rate although it still seemed very expensive to me.
The Victoria is directly opposite the SBB railway station and frequent shuttle buses run between the airport and the railway station. This was the main reason I didn't complain and ask to be put somewhere else, because I knew that no matter how late I arrived, I wouldn't be ripped off for a taxi, but could just hop on the bus.
The Victoria is a hotel that was probably once rather grand and has been resting on its laurels for a long time. It's rated as a four star but would barely scrape a 3 star rating in any other country. It's a rather big ugly building with few redeeming features architecturally. The staff were never very friendly and the rooms were small for the money, tended to be overly warm and the facilities were quite minimalist and the décor rather old-fashioned. The restaurant is very expensive and I only ate breakfast if it was included in my rate. Switzerland is never cheap but I always felt resentful about what I was charged to stay in this dull and uninspiring place.
