According to the author the location of this "elegant country-house hotel" is a somewhat "bucolic setting in the Vale of Glamorgan". The 17th-century premises have been "carefully restored", having once been "a rectory and private residence" before being converted to "a small luxurious house in 1988". The country house is located near "the Brecon Beacons and Gower Peninsula" and is set "amidst 7 acres of gardens" with suites which offer "beautiful coastal views". This "lovely" 19th century stone house has a view across the valley to a "spectacular" viaduct and the pebble beach beyond. Paddy Burt writes that its setting makes her feel as though she is in the country, despite not being far from the suburbs of Barry. The hotel is furnished with antiques, "squashy" sofas and she is "warmly" greeted on entry. Burt says that the beamed attic guest room is "bigger than most" with a "huge" bed and sofa.
