The site, lying just south of Hadrian's Wall, contains two museums; Vindolanda, a Roman fort and civilian settlement and the Roman Army Museum. The vindolanda site contains gardens (with reconstructions of a temple and a shop), the outline of many Roman buidlings and displays of artifacts such as shoes, jewellery and coins. The Roman Army Museum contains reconstructions of army life, models and a display of Roman finds. There is a Roman Army society which puts on displays at regular intervals. The theatre shows a film called "The Eagle's Eye" - a bird's eye view of Hadrian's Wall. The site also has a gift shop and cafe. Excavations continue in the area and there are programmes available in which the amateur archeologist can partake. Opening Hours: Vindolanda and Roman Army museum 10am - 6pm (April - September) 10am - 5pm (mid-February, March, October, mid-November) Vindolanda only: 10am - 4pm (mid-November - mid-February) Tickets Combined: Adult: £ 7.00 Senior, Student: £ 6.50 Child: £ 4.70 - Single attraction passes are available at a lower cost. - Family and Yearly passes are available - There is on site parking - The museum arranges evening visits during the summer for people with disabilities and their helpers to meet the Vindolanda archaeologists. |
