Frommers very highly recommend a visit to "this monastery founded in 1326" which once "housed the nuns of the Order of Saint Clare" as well as Queen Elisenda who is "buried in the Gothic church next door" in a tomb which is "surrounded by angels". The "serene cloister" includes a herb garden and "nearly two dozen elegant arches on each side". The Monestir de Pedralbes, is "well preserved" despite being the "oldest surviving" monastery in Barcelona. It is "hidden away" in the "wealthy suburb" of Pedralbes, an area which still has "the feel of a country town". As well as being "one of the finest examples of Catalan Gothic architecture", it is also the home of an important collection of "mostly religious" art from the XIVth to the XVIIIth centuries.
