Myself and my boyfriend recently went to holiday in Bangkok Thailand and while we were there we visited the Siam Ocean World.
Location
The Siam Ocean World is located on the first and second floors of the Siam Paragon Shopping centre which is pretty much in the middle of the City of Bangkok.
Siam Ocean World
The entrance consists of the ticket booths where visitors can purchase their tickets. The tickets vary in price depending on what you want to see when you get in. WE decided we wanted to see the 4D Theatre, the Glass Bottom Boat and the Aquariums. For this ticket we paid £8 which we thought was reasonable.
Just inside the entrance to Siam Ocean World, there is a gift shop called Shark Shop where you can purchase the normal merchandise of key rings, paperweights and mugs etc.
Just to the left of the entrance, there is an education room where talks are held, this is mainly for school groups.
4D Theatre.
The film showing at the time we went was a pirate comedy film which was about 30 minutes in duration.
You are given the 4D glasses on entry and your admission ticket is clipped to prove entry is paid for. You are then seated in a cinema.
Throughout the film there are various special effects that take place such as water being sprayed at you in the film (and then water is really sprayed at you!) and there are also pieces of wire that are spin around near your ankles to simulate rats running over your feet! At one point the rows of seating even jerked around. Although this is probably aimed at kids, I still found it really enjoyable.
Ocean World
When we had watched the film we made our way to the main aquarium and proceeded to the main Open Ocean. Here we are able to go on a glass bottomed boat. The boat seated about 8 people and was a little cramped but still enough room for what it was. We were all asked to wear lifejackets also just in case!
Here in the ocean section you can travel across the top of a massive aquarium which houses sharks, rays and an array of smaller grouper fish. Through the glass bottom of the boat you can see the coral reef at the bottom and the marine life swimming underneath you.
Throughout the tour, there is a member of staff giving on talk on the various fish inside the aquarium. The member of staff was also throwing in pieces of meat to attract the sharks to the surface. Guests on the boat were also allowed to feed a couple of pieces of meet the sharks.
Weird and Wonderful.
We then went to this section where you can view the weird and wonderful creatures of the deep waters of our world, some have not even been given a classification or name yet! In this section, there were live animals as well as skeletons of animals that have been found over the years.
Living Ocean
Here you can view many species of fish and we are told how they survive in the ocean, their defences and their feeding habits. The tanks are spread across two floors and can be viewed on both floors, with seating areas at the front of the aquarium.
Facilities
There are several sets of toilets located throughout Siam Ocean World. There is also a small café which serves snacks and drinks.
Summary
In summary, I would recommend a visit to this attraction. At first I found the location of Siam Ocean World slightly odd, the fact that it is in the bottom of a shopping centre is not somewhere you would expect to find an aquarium! The prices were very reasonable and we even got a free drink in their café with our admission ticket.
This attraction is unique and well designed with one aquarium being created inside a car!! Visitors can also dive with the sharks if they wish to do so, this cost about £80.
