The author, Terry Blackburn, comments that this hotel "captures much of the contemporary zeitgeist" of the city. He states that the design is "comfy minimalism" and that the lobby is not opulent but has deep sofas and thick rugs. The rooms have all mod cons plus pillow menus of the eight menus available. The glass walled bathrooms have remote controlled curtains. He writes that the atmosphere in the restaurants and bars is "enhanced" by the local expat high society while the Liu Chinese restaurant is "Baroque Wierdness" and the 87 Bar attracts the "idle young rich". He notes that the hotel is quieter at week-ends as it is a business hotel.
