[andyinSpain, 28/09/2011] Stayed here for 2 nights, pretty good standards.
The rooms are nicely decorated and the beds are really something else... huge and made from massive polished treetrunks... very impressive.
Not the easiest place to find, but in a good beach location. Would advise to get first floor rooms rather than ground floor, be advised that 2 rooms share the same outside space, lounge area, kitchen facilities, so its best to book both rooms if you want privacy. Rooms come with a working fridge and gas hob, dont expect much in the way of pans, cutlery etc.
There are resident monkeys that invade regularly so

[andyinSpain, 28/09/2011] Hotel Kumbe is in the heart of Mtwapa and is inside a small compound so parking is reasonably secure, there is a bar and grill attached.
The hotel itself is average, clean but no frills, needs a lick of paint to smarten it up.
Pretty good budget hotel but one word of advice, avoid the breakfast at all costs!!!!
[nairobi123, 11/08/2009] Just back from a beautifull summer holiday at Mombasa’s North Coast.
Me, my wife and our two sons (7 + 12 years) had a stay (half board) for two
weeks in Villa Annchen Mtwapa Creek, nearby Bamburi Beach and Shanzu Beach.
The Villa is situated straight to the ocean, with a bombastic view of the creek and a
direct access (through steps) to a small natural beach enclosed with a lovely tropical vegetation.
The guest rooms (we had two rooms which were connected through a double door
- family suite-) are gorgeous furnished with handmade African furniture and surly
very clean. Towel s and l

[Tembo, 04/12/2008] The Plaza is a small hotel overlooking Bamburi Beach. Its been built sideways on so by looking right from your balcony you can see the sea. The gardens and pool are small and the amenities limited.
Our stay was memorable for a couple of reasons - we couldn't turn the shower off so had constant hot water running, steaming up the bathroom and bedroom which couldn't be fixed as it was a public holiday. We also caught glimpses of cockroaches scurrying across the floor. We were eventually offered another room which was damp and smelly. The plus side was the restaurant - good standard of foo

[Tembo, 01/12/2008] We've used this hotel quite a few times as it offers clean spacious accommodation right on Bamburi Beach.
Self - catering - the first time we rented one of the s / c 2 bed rondavel apartments. Huge rooms - not luxurious but having use of a pool right outside made up for it.
Standard room - half board - OK for a base for a couple of nights.
Superior room - B&B - lovely big room with nice furnishings in the new part of the hotel.
The hotel is split in two by a lane with the rondavels and old hotel on one side and the newer hotel and self catering cottages (literally spitting distanc

[Tembo, 18/11/2008] We stayed at this hotel about 8 years ago when it was called the Giriama hotel on Bamburi Beach. It was an OK hotel then - the best being right on the beach and gorgeous Indian Ocean.
Shortly after our stay it was turned into an Army garrison and the building rapidly went down hill. Earlier this year it was taken over by a Christian organisation and re-named Miele Beach.
Its been done up and the restaurant / swimming pool / bar areas all look as they had been pre-garrison. The downside is that as its a Christian resort there is no smoking or drinking of alcohol whatsoever. We called in e

[Tembo, 17/11/2008] Travellers Hotel is situated on Bamburi Beach, north coast of Mombasa. The hotel is split in two - Travellers Beach (half board) on one side with an enclosed bridge linking it to Travellers Club (all inc) on the other side. Both sides have bars and swimming pools with views of the beach and ocean. Be careful though as the all inc bracelet doesn't get you free drinks at all bars.
The bedrooms are big - sitting area with TV, dressing area and bathroom. Clean and functional - perhaps a little dated but that's Kenya.
Swimming pools are freeform - I did love the sign that blondes had to b
