[more]This 12 metre high black statue of a lion’s head was created in 1971 by local artists and stands adjacent to a large rock that is naturally shaped like the head of a lion. Prior to the creation of this man made carving the natural rock had become a local tourist attraction in the region and the mayor of Baguio commissioned the artificial lion’s head to boost tourism further. It is now one of the most famous and most visited landmarks around.
A car parking area known as Camp 6 has been created opposite the attraction and from here most visitors cross the road and have there photograph taken beneath the beast. It is said that no visitor to Baguio will leave without visiting the lion’s head. Surrounding Camp 6 there are many souvenir stalls selling carved replicas of the lion’s head. There are no charges to visit and it is accessible at all times.
