The fauna of the park inlcudes, among others, lion, leopard, elephant, rhinoceros, Patterson's eland, Klipspringer, Dikdik, impala, zebra, buffalo, cheetah, gazelle and giraffe, warthog, hyraxes, baboon as well as a large and variety of bird and reptile population. The Serengeti's climate is usually warm and dry. The main rainy season is from March to May, with short rains falling from October to November.
The Park is an UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1981.
