This is an old fashioned guest house style B&B on the Promenade at Arnside looking over the Kent Estuary at the top of Morecambe Bay in Cumbria. Get a room at the front and the views are superb ranging in one glance from sea and mudflats to the hills of the Southern Lake District.
The owners, Peter and George (Georgina when she is bad) Birch, are a couple who provide excellent rooms and a warm welcome. The 'Willowfield Whammie' full English breaksfast sets you up for the day and, while evening meals are not provided 'The Albion' and 'The Fighting Ciocks' both do good evening meals. 10% off at the Albion with a voucher from the Willowfield.
Also providing meals up to 7pm is the Heron Cafe which has a multi-choice fixed 3-courese menu at £8.45 a head. Pensioners get a £1.50 reduction. No licence to sell but take your own bottle and glasses are provided with no corkage charge. When you get back after your evening meal a small self-serve bar is available in the lounge.
From Arnside the Lake District, Morecambe Bay, the Furness Peninsular, Kendal and railway along the coast to Barrow, Sellafield etc are easily accessible or you can stay local and walk or sit in the sun.
Just the place for a lazy relaxing or energetic holiday, the choice is yours.
At our last visit March 2010 en-suite front rooms were just under £40 pppn depending on length of stay. Check them out via Google.
