This was the first holiday abroad for my wife and I 1988, so at the time we had little experience of beaches abroad.
We stopped in a hotel called the Iliessa and you could walk out of the hotels grounds straight onto the beach.
My wife was not a competent swimming at the time and the pool did not have a shallow end, so she would not go into it. She dreaded the thought of going into the sea as she was unsure if she would get out of her depth, but this was never going to be a problem in the sea around Argassi beach.
The beach was narrow but had fine sand and there was no sign of litter. Near our hotel there were no sunbeds as there was no room but further along you could hire them. Watersports where also available from a jetty further up the beach.
The sea felt warm and looked crystal clear when we entered (June) due to the fact that it was very shallow and it was so calm. Swimming near the beach was a problem for swimming as it was so shallow, you needed to walk out a good 50 metres, but this made it ideal for families with kids. In the water it was sandy as well, only the odd stone, so no risk of sea urchins.
With the beach being narrow you would expect to be cramped for space, we did not find this as it seemed to go on for miles and the busier parts seemed to be the areas with sunbeds.
With the beach right next to the resort it is very easy to pop into any hotel, restaurant or cafe for lunch. Other facilities like toilets or changing rooms were not available, this may have changed now as the resort has grown from the once quite village to one of the livelier resorts on Zante. Never mind they say all good things come to an end.
