The Roman Theatre of Augusta Praetoria, as Aosta was called in Roman times, dates back to the first century AD. Today only its 22 m high Southern facade is still completely intact. Remnants of the seating area, its semi-circular tiers are existing, as well as the foundation of the stage. The theatre offered once space for up to 4000 people. A photographic exhibition highlights the the process of the restoration works that have been undertaken to preserve the remnants of the theatre. Access to the theatre is free, opening times depend on the season during which you are visiting, for further information please visit the website. |
