[goldberg1, 03/02/2009] On our previous trips to Amsterdam we always stuck to it's city centre (with it's beautiful canals, red light district etc.).
An internet search for an affordable hotel took us to the 'de Pijp' area. A hip and trendy part of town, just south of the city centre and known as Amsterdam's 'Quartier Latin'.
Our hotel recommended café Stof for dinner. A quaint little place on a nearby (beautiful, tree-covered) square.
Great value for money and very friendly staff. In the summer it's possible to eat outside on the square. Unfortinately it was raining when we where there, but that didn't harm the e

[Stut, 28/11/2008] Amazing!!!! My dad is Dutch and is a massive fan of Ajax, so took him there for a day out. Stadium is fantastic, my kids have become Ajax fans, and I well...sorry guys, but I'm still for Liverpool. Amsterdam is wonderfull!!!
[gjmcginn, 26/11/2008] I was looking forward to go to this hotel after reading about the concept on the homepage. The two main selling points were the cool design and the shower with light and rain effect shower head. It's also close to the Airport, but you still have to walk quite a distance to get there. It's also very interesting to watch planes taking off and landing so close to the room.
The rooms are quite small, but designed in a way so that you dont need much space. If you have lots of baggage, the rooms will probably be a little on the small side. WLAN is free and there are a few computers and a printer

[B_O_M_B_A, 22/08/2008] The Arean is actually very impressive, holding over 50,000 people it is the largest in Amsterdam.
[B_O_M_B_A, 22/08/2008] Located in central Amsterdam the museum is a true delight and should be seen by all who travel there. it is one of the most popular places in Amsterdam and it is clear to see why
[B_O_M_B_A, 22/08/2008] The experience truely is great, plenty to do for all ages and you even get a free gift!

[NY-Paris-Amsterdam, 04/04/2008] I am top rating this property simply because this is an experience on it's own, the design is a must see. It's not too expensive, has a good location, and I slept so well.
[merkat, 28/03/2008] The Red Light District is a "must see" in Amsterdam. As the name indicates, it is a street with brothels and ladies of the night. What makes it so special is the fact it is not in suburbia or some part of the town where you normally wouldn't go, but almost in the center of the city. Nothing can warn you that you are about to enter the one of the world's most famous red light districts - you could take a walk around center of Amsterdam, without any specific route, and suddenly just to find yourself in a Red Light District.
The street itself is like other streets in Amsterdam, but instead of

[merkat, 28/03/2008] Since there is a very detailed review on this museum, with all necessary information, I will write only about my personal impression.
I have visited Amsterdam ten years ago (1998), just before changing Guldens to Euros. I didn't have a lot of money, but Van Gogh museum was the place I just had to visit, since he is my favorite painter of all times.
The museum is a little bit dislocated from all other interesting areas, but it's worth visiting and, since Amsterdam is not huge city, the trip doesnt take much of your time. You can easily reach it by city bus if taxi is not within your budget.

[shedova, 13/02/2008] Hotel was very cute and quite. It took only 15 minutes walking to many attractions. The channels and old buildings of Amsterdam are marvelous! I like everything and when it is possible will come back.
[crismattias, 21/07/2007] Been there last month. Although it was cold, we had a nice stroll along the market.
The market is ok. For grocerie shopping, fresh vegetables, typical Dutch fish and of course the Dutch cheeses it's a great place to go. But what might really be of your interest are all the small stores, boutiques and restaurants which are hidden behind the market venders. All kinds of utilities (kitchen!!!) clothing and spices from throughout the world can be found.
The market is open everyday except sundays from 9 to 5. But come early, that's when you have the entire market to yourself. And bring enough ca

[crismattias, 20/07/2007] The location is perfect if youre looking for museums! Just a few minutes walk from the Van Gogh Museum and to the Rijksmuseum!
The most famous shopping street the PcHoofstraat is as well just a few minutes walking distance. And as well near by the nicest thing the beautiful Voldenpark!!!
If youre not looking for the busy area of the city centre of Amsterdam, near by the Central Station, this is the perfect hotel in town!
[tartlette, 14/06/2007] I went to Amsterdam wanting to see some of its historic buildings. I love old churches so the Nieuwe Kerk (New Church) was high on my list. I was very disappointed by my visit as the church fabric was mostly covered up by an exibition. Read on...
HISTORY:
Despite being called the 'New' Church, the church was actually built in the 15th century (although it has been extensively rebuilt due to fire). The building is mainly Gothic. From the early 19th century the Nieuwe Kerk began to overtake the Oude Kerk (Old Church) for prestige. Since then all of the monarchs of the Netherlands have been

[tartlette, 11/06/2007] I visited Anne Frank's House on a visit to Amsterdam last week. 6 of us went on the trip and the only thing that we all agreed we wanted to see was Anne Frank's House. I wanted to see it, as being a historian this was one of the most important sites in the city. Others had read the book or even just heard Anne mentioned in passing. The thing was that everyone knew something about the story of Anne, which is pretty remarkable in itself, that a small girl's diary could become so famous.
THE BACKGROUND:
Most people will know at least the basics of Anne's story, but here's a reminder. Anne w

[tartlette, 08/06/2007] I went to Amsterdam last year on a girlie trip. There were 6 of us going and being the classy girls that we are we wanted a somewhat classy hotel! We are also very aware of the pennies and therefore wanted somewhere good value, which included breakfast.
Cue hour long searches on the internet looking for the perfect hotel. We thought we had found it. We booked a hotel in Rembrandt Square which was brand new, had a swimming pool and breakfast would only cost us 9 Euros per day. We found it on one of the hotel reduction sites and so the price was only around 40 Euros per night each - bargain

[trivago traveller, 17/09/2006] The hotel was to a very good standard, and the location was perfect and much nicer than I had imagined. We were pleasantly surprised by the very, very friendly and helpful staff. Our rooms were all on the ground floor and very adequate for the price paid, and the standard of cleanliness was top rate. The buffet breakfast was excellent, with sufficient choice to suit every taste, and (a first in my experience of hotel catering) perfect boiled eggs and really fresh orange juice. Of course, the weather really helped the success of our weekend too, and sitting at the Ledise square cafes until the

[Newfloridian, 10/08/2006] The Hotel Pulitzer, Amsterdam is part of the Luxury Collection of the Starwood Hotels and Resorts. It has been formed by the amalgamation and renovation of twenty four of the original canal houses. The modernisations have been quite extensive but have been in keeping with the listed nature of the buildings. It has created unusual sprawling hotel in the heart of the old city while retaining the feel of historic canal houses. There are many changes of level (steps up and down) on each floor and there are tight and steep staircases between floors so much so that the hotel does advise that it can
