Vliegenbos is one of the campings in Amsterdam. My overall impression of this camping is bad, and I would not recommend this place to stay! While at the premises you feel yourself as a child who is constantly watched by "mummy". The reason we stayed here was because the camping we wanted to stay in was full.
Camping Vliegenbos is situated just 10 minutes away from the city center of Amsterdam and is surrounded by small forest. To the nearest bus stop, there is 200 meters walk. Here you may find quite good looking shop, restaurant, launderette, telephone, and etc. It looked like most of the visitors were young people.
How did we get here and why didn't I like it!
At the first camping we have been offered a list of camping places near by. One of these was Vliegenbos. It was late and we have been hoping that the reception will be still opened. We got lucky! We arrived there somewhere after 9:30 p.m. and were given a piece of land to place our tent and have been warned about showers closing at 10:30 p.m. So we hurried ourselves with assembling the tent and when I finely got into the shower/wc I got shocked!
First of all - blue light! How can you possibly do anything in blue light? The sink area was dirty, with hairs and some other interesting ingredients that I considered to be a cream or toothpaste. Sinks are too high and are definitely not for children. No toilet paper and no seats on the toilets! I thought that this is only one cabin like this due to the technical problems, but next ones were the same. Later I was wondering, why do they close showers so early and came to the conclusion that maybe they are cleaning those during the night? To my surprise 8:30 a.m., it looked the same way I left it just 11 hours ago. Disappointing! The only plus was the free of charge hot water and the funky, modern design.
The field, we were sent to, was full and small, but we managed to get a piece of it and assemble the tent. However, all the tents were placed very closed to each other. There was a constant smell of weed in the air. And during the night we have been waken up by our neighbours, who decided to have a chat with drink and weed. It did last to an hour, and I didn't hear security stopping them or at least checking the quietness. As I understood from the very beginning, this place was very strict, and they warned us to be quite as the security is constantly checking the area. I guess all security guys were fallen asleep that particular night!
As I already mentioned this camping is quite strict. At the reception nice young girl gave us the whole list of what we could do, and what we could not! She also suggested to read it through to be safe and do not experience any difficulties in the future. For example, no cars are allowed in or out after 10 p.m.. By the way, parking space is small! And as we arrived late, we had no room to park our car. However, at the reception they were really nice to us and allowed us to leave it next to the reception, on the side of the rode. As well they are keeping your passport or driving license in case you will leave this place without paying.
At the end we were happy to leave it as soon as possible. Our bill in the morning was higher than I would be expecting to pay for camping and definitely almost twice higher than what we paid in Germany and Switzerland.
