This review appears on pages 91 - 92 of the Michelin Green Guide to the Châteaux of the Loire (January 2006 edition). It is given one star, which denotes "interesting". This manor house in "red brick highlighted with white stone" was first acquired by Charles VIII in 1490. In 1516 François I invited Leonardo da Vinci to Amboise and lodged him here where Leonardo, surprisingly, "organised the court festivities" and eventually died here in 1519. His bedroom and studio can be visited. The basement houses a museum of Leonardo's "fabulous machines", models made by IBM based on the designs of
