[koshkha, 04/07/2010] De Vere Cameron House stands right beside Loch Lomond and is a beautiful grand old building and a very expensive place to stay. For those who can't stretch to the hotel itself, or want a destination for a group holiday, there are lodges in the grounds of the hotel that are a great choice for self-catering. When you hire one of these, you still have access to many of the hotel's facilities, but you get more privacy and independence. In describing the history of this hotel the author finds that De Vere Cameron House Hotel is one of Scotland's "great country houses". Cameron House has shown its popularity with its fine guest, which lists key states people including Sir Winston Churchill, Princess Margaret and Earl Mountbatten. the ancestral home of the Smollets. The author found the non-smoking rooms to be "top-rate", from the smallest house rooms to the highly recommended spacious four poster suites and describes the Spa facilities as "one of the best in this part of Scotland" as are the rest of the leisure facilities [more]

The hotel has recently had an extensive renovation amounting to a "full-flung facelift". The result is a mixture of traditional and contemporary. The "magnificent, dark hallway" with its "huge stone slabs" and "roaring fire" also has "over-sized chairs" and a "tealight-lit table". Similarly the whisky bar combines "antler chandeliers" with "funky animal head sculptures".
