[more]Fort Hunt Park is located 6 miles from Old Town Alexandria and 11 miles from Washington, D. C. The park is managed by the National Park Service as part of the George Washington Memorial Parkway and houses the remnants of batteries and fortifications which date from the 1880s. It was also used for military intelligence operations during WWII and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
The park is open daily from dawn to dusk and serves as a general recreation area which includes picnic spaces. During summer regular concerts are held in the park on Sundays and there is no entry fee.
