Fasta Pasta is a franchise restaurant with locations all over Australia. However, not all Fasta Pastas are the same. I have visited one in the south of Adelaide a couple of times and it was okay, but for me the restaurant at Gilles Plains stands out more.
The outside of the building isn’t in brilliant condition, but step inside and it looks like it has been recently refurbished in a clean, modern style. A member of staff greeted us promptly and politely with a friendly smile as we entered and let us choose a table while she brought some menus. My husband doesn’t like pasta much so it was good to see a varied menu. There were a range of meat and fish dishes, vegetarian choices, a choice of pizzas, various pasta and Gnocchi dishes, a choice of sides and a small children’s menu. The children’s meals include a drink and a gelato. To order your meal you have to go to the counter and pay upon ordering. Cold and alcoholic drinks can be ordered with the meal or bought separately at the bar.
The meals we chose were lovely. My husband even tried a bit of my pasta dish as he thought it looked delicious. He had chosen a pepper steak and was encouraging me to try the sauce. He even encouraged me to try my daughter’s battered fish as he thought it was so good. Unfortunately I was too full by this point to really appreciate it. There certainly wasn’t any way that I would be able to fit a desert in. The girls, however, were determined to have their afters and chose from a large range at the gelato counter. There didn’t seem to be a desert menu, but there are cakes on display at the counter which you can choose from if you can fit any more in.
This is a family restaurant, but we saw couples and groups of adults dining there as well. The atmosphere is relaxed and certainly not noisy as you might expect from somewhere that caters for families. Admittedly I’m sure there are times when children do start to make a bit of noise, but it didn’t seem like the sort of place which would allow children to charge around. We did get a baby crying for a little while, but the parents soon calmed it down and I was surprised how little it bothered me.
We paid $6.90 for the children’s meals and just under $20 for the steak. The pasta and pizza dishes were priced around $12 and salads were available from around $11 to $17. All in all, not a restaurant to break the bank, but not so cheap as to bring the quality down.
I felt that the quality of the food at this restaurant was high and the staff very friendly, helpful and polite. Located on a main road, it is easy to find and has ample parking available. Bookings are not usually needed, but can be made. There is a take away menu available, but don’t let this put you off as it doesn’t devalue the restaurant in any way.
