In April 1931 the National Monument was unveiled. The inside chamber lists in bronze the names of the men who did not return from the war. The front of the monument depicts the spirit of duty and the rear represents the passive aftermath of war.
Surrounding the central World War One memorial are smaller memorials, which have been added to commemorate later wars and conflicts including the Second World War.
