[19/11/2007] The author informs us early in the article that the Addo is only a 45 minute drive from Port Elizabeth and provides "an excellent opportunity to view elephants in their natural habitat".
This was claimed to be a park in 1931, and at this point the park only had "11 elephants remaining in the area", but the Addo is now home to over "300, and the reserve encompasses some 90,000 hectares (222,300 acres)".
The author informs us that the best time of the year to view the elephants is "in spring, when the harsh Eastern Cape bushveld is softened with flowers", and the author states that you can view the "grey behemoths" which can be seen "standing in carpets of yellow daisies".
There are other species of animal to look for and these range from "black rhino, buffalo, zebra, warthog, and a few endemic species such as the flightless dung beetle".
The article finishes by stating the best time for sightings is when you "head for the watering holes".
Or you can take a guided drive in an "open-topped Land Rover".
