[elspeth334, 12.08.2007] Frommer's describes the Thainstone House Hotel as "one of northeast Scotland's most elegant country hotels" it is set in it own grounds and "is a Palladian-style mansion whose adornments give it the air of a country club". The mansion we are told was designed by "Archibald Simpson" and arriving guests enter "through a grand portal up an elegant stairway". He continues to describe the interior as having "high ceilings, columns, neoclassical plaster reliefs, and cornices" and tells us the newer part of the building has been skillfully created and "blends the old with the new". The "elegantly furnished guest rooms vary in size" and we are told "offer extra touches such as sherry and shortbread". He describes Simpson's Restaurant as serving a "
Continental and Scottish menu with a light, inventive touch".
Frommer's gives the Thainstone House Hotel three red stars which is exceptional.
