[05.10.2008] Recently my girlfriend and I thought it would be fun to go to Rocky Mountain National Park and take in a hike. We really had no destination or route planned but rather we thought we would "freelance it" once we got up to the park. Upon arrival we thought we would take in Bear Lake and make a decision from that point as to where we would hike. We did not quite make it when nature called we found the Glacier Basin p [more]

[30.09.2008] I recently had occasion to visit the Columbine Memorial. I have started working nights and I have time in the mornings where as until recently I did not. I have wanted to visit this memorial for a long time. I can still clearly recall that April 20th. It is like so many of the events of our lives where one never forgets what they were doing or where they were when the event unfolded. Here in Colorado the ending o [more]

[03.08.2008] My son and I thought today would be a good day to go to the state capital and take a look. Normally governmental building would be closed during the weekend. However this weekend is special. Today was the second of August. The significance to that yesterday the first of August was the anniversary to Colorado becoming the 38th state. So the state government had the capital building open for this first Saturday followi [more]

[27.07.2008] NCAR which stands for National Center for Atmospheric Research is housed in a building designed by I.M. Pei which uses the cliff dwellings of Mesa Verde National Park as his inspiration sits atop a mesa (table top mountain) overlooking the city of Boulder, Colorado and the eastern plains beyond. I was in Boulder and thought it worth a trip to the top of the mesa to get a look at this fantastic facility. It is in t [more]

[15.07.2008] My son and I awoke one Saturday with no particular plans. We were watching the new when it was announced the Traveling Viet Nam War Memorial would be in Thornton that day. We thought it would be a good way to start the day. The Viet Nam war was during a period of American history that was one of the most divisive in its history. A lasting tribute to those that fought in the war was the Viet Nam War Memorial locate [more]

[12.07.2008] One of the joys of living in the part of Colorado that I do is the proximity to both mountain and plain. Until recently I have been working in Boulder which sits right at the base of what is locally known as the Front Range. That is the mountains facing the cities of Denver, Colorado Springs, Fort Collins and Boulder are all the first mountains to be bumped into when coming from the east, the point of origin for the [more]

[08.07.2008] While my son and I were in the area (we had attended the Cherry Creek Arts Festival) we thought we would go ahead and visit the 16th Street Mall. The 16th Street Mall oddly enough runs along 16th Street in downtown Denver running from Market Street to Broadway. It was formerly a one way street in the heart of downtown but was converted to an urban walk and bus way. There are no cars allowed on it. However busses r [more]

[06.07.2008] Every year during the weekend of the fourth of July the Cherry Creek Arts Festival takes place in the Cherry Creek district of Denver. It takes place on city street near the Cherry Creek shopping district consuming some six city blocks in depth and two city blocks height. St. Paul Street this year became culinary Avenue while Milwaukee Street is Artivity Avenue. This is where people of all ages can take an active rol [more]

[04.07.2008] I have a friend whose son wanted to go see a baseball game. We thought about it and thought it would be fun go on the third of July. It would be a Thursday night game but there would be no work the next day due to the fourth of July holiday so we bought tickets. I have not been to Coors Field for about seven years and have been looking forward to it for a couple of weeks. As an added bonus the Colorado Rockies bas [more]

[29.06.2008] My daughter recently moved in and is working at City Park here in Westminster, Colorado where we live. One evening I was to pick her up from work and give her a ride back home. I had not been in that part of town for a while ad noticed while driving up there was a new memorial in the park so I thought I would go back later in the day (it is summer now and blazing hot) to investigate. I got there just as the sun wa [more]
